Fiat 500 driver with Portuguese license plate fled German police chase

In the early hours of Thursday, a driver behind the wheel of a Fiat 500 with Portuguese license plates fled a police operation in Germany, resulting in a 15-kilometer chase that ended with the vehicle crashing into a wall. The incident occurred in the Westspange area, near Saarbrücken, and culminated in the driver abandoning the car and fleeing on foot through a wooded area, leaving behind two passengers he had picked up at the airport.

According to a statement from the Saarbrücken Police, which released a photo of the Fiat 500, the incident happened at around 2:50 am, during a border control. The driver was initially stopped and even slowed down, but suddenly accelerated as a police officer approached, giving rise to the chase.

Along the route, the Fiat 500 ignored red lights, was registered by several radars and put other drivers at risk, forcing one of them to take an evasive maneuver to avoid a collision. The chase ended in Friedrichsthal when the vehicle became stuck in a concrete wall and in bushes, at which point the driver fled into a nearby forest.

The two passengers in the vehicle were detained by authorities and revealed that the driver had picked them up at Luxembourg airport, with their final destination scheduled for France.

German authorities suspect that this is a case of illegal immigration. The identity of the driver remains unknown, and German authorities continue their search to locate him.
