According to President Sheinbaum, Mexico has already accepted more than 4,000 people.
Mexican authorities have accepted non-Mexico migrants deported from the United States in the past week. On Monday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who initially disagreed with the US government’s approach, reported on this, TASR writes, according to a Reuters report.
According to Sheinbaum, Mexico has already accepted more than 4,000 people, while the “vast majority” of them were Mexicans. There has been no significant increase in the number of deportees accepted by Mexico since US President Donald Trump took office a week ago, Sheinbaum said.
The left-wing leader initially said her government did not agree with Washington relaunching the “Stay in Mexico” program, according to AFP, which sent migrants from third countries to Mexico while they waited for documents to be processed by United States authorities.
Colombia on Sunday refused to accept two US military planes arriving from California with a total of about 160 Colombian migrants on board. In response, US President Donald Trump ordered sweeping tariffs and sanctions, to which Bogota responded by imposing a 25 percent tariff on US goods. The White House subsequently reported on Sunday that Colombia had relented and agreed to accept the repatriated citizens.
