Fish-far that “predicts natural disasters” appears in Praia do Brasil/Photo: Reproduction
A far fish was found stranded on a beach of Espírito Santo, in southeastern Brazil. The presence of the animal, which usually lives in depths of up to 3,200 meters, is popularly associated with the foreshadowing of natural disasters, such as earthquakes and tsunamis, which earned him nicknames as’ tragedy announcer ‘and’ fish of the end of the end of the world’.
The sighting surprised tourists walking around, and a fisherman was filmed helping the animal back to the water. The species, which inhabits the depths of the ocean, is rarely seen on the surface, which generated speculation and alerts between some people.
According to the Scripps Institute, only 20 copies of this species were recorded since 1901, making their appearance a rare event. The Ocean Conservatory explains that the far fish usually rises to the surface when it is sick, disoriented or close to death. His unusual behavior feeds popular beliefs that he could be a foreshadowing of natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis.
