Police had initially said that the attack was being investigated as an attempted murder and a criminal fire.

The police said there was no “terrorist” reason behind the attack.

According to police, there were reports of a shooting at Risbergska school – an adult educational center – at 12:33 pm local time (8:33 am, Brasília). The building is in a campus that also houses other schools.

These centers are mainly attended by people who have not completed elementary or high school.

Shortly after the attacks, students from several nearby schools were kept in closed environments, “for safety reasons.”

“We don’t want people to move around,” said Forest.

Near hospitals have emptied their ready-to-the-artis and intensive care units to release space to serve the victims of the shooting, local press said.
