Tabata Amaral to CNN: Misogyny PL still receives lying attacks

The Misogyny Bill, which criminalizes hatred against women, has been the target of a wave of misinformation, including from parliamentarians. The complaint was made by deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP), rapporteur of the project in the Chamber of Deputies, in an interview with CNN 360°.

According to Tabata Amaral, the proposal arrived after being unanimously approved in the Federal Senate, with the support of parliamentarians from the left, right and all parties. Despite this, the deputy stated that the misinformation surrounding the text has been intense. “Unfortunately, there is still a wave of fake news, of lying attacks on “, he declared.

Parliamentarians used excerpts from other projects to attack the proposal

Among the cases of disinformation reported by Tabata Amaral, she highlighted that at least one parliamentarian even used excerpts from another bill, unrelated to the Misogyny PL, to attack the proposal. “There was a parliamentarian who used an excerpt from another project that had nothing to do with it. In short, there are people inventing all kinds of stories”, said the deputy.

Tabata Amaral highlighted that the project is simple and takes up just one page, and that one of the main missions of the working group is to explain to society what the proposal really proposes. She also highlighted the importance of listening to those who think differently, as long as the dialogue is carried out with respect. “Listen to those who think differently, but dialogue with respect. That’s what I’m going to do and I’m doing it for now,” he said.

Working group will hear from victims and experts in the coming weeks

The deputy announced that, over the next four weeks, the working group will hold hearings to hear victims, mothers of victims, lawyers, jurists, delegates and experts. The objective is to improve the text received from the Senate and build a consensus version. “Over the next four weeks, starting this Wednesday, I will listen to victims, mothers of victims, lawyers, jurists, delegates, experts, whoever works with this at the forefront so that we can improve”, said Tabata Amaral.
