Rebeca Andrade competes for Laureus as “Return of the Year”

Brazilian gymnast is nominated for the award after overcoming injuries and becoming the largest Olympic medalist in the country

Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade, the largest Olympic medalist in the country, was nominated granddaughter Monday (3.mar.2025) for the category “Return of the Year” in the award known as “Oscar do Esporte”. The ceremony of the 25th edition will be held on April 21, in Madrid (Spain).

Rebeca exceeded 3 serious injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee before winning 4 medals at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024: one gold in the ground, two silver (jumps and general individual) and one of Bronze by teams. They added to the two conquered at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

The 2025 edition of Laureus celebrates the 25th anniversary of the prize. The nominees are chosen by a panel of 1,300 members of the international media. The winners are determined by a jury of 69 sports personalities.

In the “Return of the Year” category, Rebeca Andrade faces international renowned competitors: American swimmer Caeleb Dressel, Swiss skiing Lara Gut-Behrami, Spanish motorcyclist Marc Márquez, Indian cricket player Rishabh Pant and Australian swimmer Ariam Titmus.
