Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) prepares a bill to regulate the new guidelines of GCM (Metropolitan Civil Guard) after the decision of the Supreme Court (STF).
The measure should expand the powers of the staff, especially to patrol private areas. Also under study is the possibility of Guarding to make arrests in the act.
“In short it is to organize the structure, update procedures, authorize partnerships for training,” says the mayor.
The text should be sent to the City Council after Nunes sanction the change of name of GCM to Municipal Police. This change, however, is stuck in the House itself.
The project that foresees the name exchange has been approved in the first round, but will try to approve it in the second round next week.
The subject became a agenda in the Supreme Court after the São Paulo City Council Attorney’s Office appealed from a decision of the Court that prevented GCM from acting with police power.
