O Mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB)confirmed, on Monday (10), that he wants a “restructuring” of the Metropolitan Civil Guard (GCM). The measure, he said, must happen through a bill that is being written “to four hands.”
“She [Guarda Civil Metropolitana] has already done a police action for a long timeas in São Paulo and in the other large cities. Over time the municipalities were acting on this security issue for a necessity, ”said the mayor.
“There is the project to change the name and now there is the project that we are writing in four hands that It is a restructuring, just a restructuring that we will do.”
The statement was given at a press conference called by the mayor to take the 2025 carnival balance in São Paulo.
Nunes also said that he intends to include in the proposal measures that already exist, such as a training academy for the guards. The chief executive also mentioned the bill that is being processed in the City Council that aims to change the name of GCM.
“The President [da Câmara Municipal] Ricardo Teixeira, I can even take advantage of it, is there to form the commissions and perhaps if we can vote the House project this week, to demand the project of readjustment of the Metropolitan Civil Guard already with the name, including the approval of our coat of arms, ”he said.
