The Portuguese João Almeida, who has the nickname of Bota Lume, reached an unprecedented feat for Portugal by winning the fourth stage of Paris-Nice, becoming the first Portuguese cyclist to triumph in this prestigious French proof.
The 26 -year -old athlete was the strongest on the way up to La Loge des Gardes, concluding the 163.4 km of 3h37m06s. In the final sprint, Almeida managed to overcome Danish Jonas Vingegaard, two -time champion of the tour and new leader of the race.
With this achievement, João Almeida now adds 14 career wins and rises fifth place in the overall classification, being 37 seconds of the new leader, Vingegaard. The stage was marked by adverse weather conditions, including a temporary interruption due to hail fall.
