PJ seizes almost a ton of cocaine to Portugal

The Judiciary Police seized almost a ton of cocaine and detained eleven alleged members of “one of the most active criminal groups in the Iberian Peninsula” in the introduction of cocaine in Europe, the investigation police said. The drug had as its final destination Portugal.

The “about 940 pounds of cocaine” arrived at the Iberian Peninsula in a sea container, concealed “in the middle of onion bags”, says the PJ press office, adding that the seizure is the result of an international operation that had the collaboration of the Spain National Police and the North American agency Drug Encarcement Administration (DEA).

The container came from “a Latin American country” and entered Spain through the Porto de Valencia. The drug was then transported to a warehouse near the Spanish city, where the investigators seized and detention of members of the criminal group, who were already under investigation.

According to the joint investigation, which began in November last year, the drug “had as its final destination Portugal” and, despite the result of the “reserve” operation, will continue the investigations.
