The majority of the population is against reducing the sentences of those involved in January 8th, including that of the former president (PL), arrested for an attempted coup d’état, shows Genial/Quaest research.
52% of those interviewed responded in this way, compared to 39% who said they were in favor and 9% who did not know or did not respond.
This is a very different scenario from that measured in December, when the survey indicated a tie between those who said they were against and in favor — 46% to 46%. According to the survey, the non-Lulista left is the one that most rejects the measure (77%), followed by the Lulist left (72%). Bolsonaro supporters are those who most support the reduction (73%), followed by respondents identified with the non-Bolsonarist right (67%).
The majority of independents (58%) are against, and 31% are in favor. The president’s (PT) veto of the Dosimetry Bill was overturned by Congress at the end of April. Thus, the original proposal was promulgated by the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil -AP), and became law.
At least 257 votes from deputies and 41 votes from senators were needed, computed separately.
For 54% of those interviewed by Genial/Quaest, the project was approved to benefit Bolsonaro. Another 34% said that the PL was intended to benefit everyone involved, and 12% did not know or did not respond. The survey was commissioned by Genial Investimentos.
2,004 interviews were carried out across the country between May 8 and 11. The margin of error is plus or minus two percentage points.
