UEFA shows the chamber angle that used to nullify Julián Alvarez's penalty at AT. Madrid-Real

UEFA released a statement on Thursday to clarify the annulment of the penalty marked by Julián Álvarez in the match between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid (1-0, 2-4 in the penalties), referring to the champions League round of 16. Through the statement, the UEFA explains that the Argentine striker contact the ball with the support (the left) before the right foot shifted it, which led VAR to alert the main referee, Szymon Marciniak, for error.

UEFA also revealed that Atletico Madrid questioned the body about the incident. The statement states: “Although the contact is minimal, the player touched the ball with the support foot before his kick. According to the rule in force, the VAR was forced to alert the referee for the goal to be annulled. ” UEFA also announced that it will discuss with IFAB (organ responsible for the rules of football) the possibility of changing the standard if the double touch is clear and without intention.
