The EU extended sanctions against Russia by six months, with Hungary agreed after the seven persons from the penalty list.

The EU Member States agreed on Friday to extend the validity of sanctions imposed on Russia for its aggression in Ukraine for another six months. Referring to diplomats, AFP informed about it. The validity of the sanctions would expire without agreement on Saturday (15 March) at midnight. Hungary also agreed to extend, TASR writes.

The unanimous agreement at the level of permanent representatives in Brussels was achieved less than two days before the expiration of sanctions related to more than 2400 individuals and legal persons, especially from Russia.

Hungary requested the removal of several persons from the penalty list

Throughout the week, diplomats tried to convince Hungary to agree with the extension. Budapest demanded that several persons be removed from the penalty list.

Their names have not been published, but according to the information of the station Radio Free Europe (RFE/RL), these are seven oligarchs including Dmitry Mazepin, Mikhail Fridman and Piotr Aven and Russian Sport Minister Mikhail Degťariov.

According to Reuters sources, EU diplomats finally agreed because of the threat of the Hungarian sentence on the deletion of seven people, including three who are death after death. Fridman is not among the detached from the list, although Hungary took it. The names of others are not immediately known.
