China ordered its airlines no longer accept Boeing jets in response to US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose 145% tariffs on Chinese products, published the Bloomberg News This Tuesday (15), citing sources familiar with the subject.

Boeing’s actions – which sees China as one of its greatest growing markets and where rival Airbus has a dominant position – fell 3% before opening the markets.

Beijing also ordered Chinese airlines to suspend purchases of equipment and parts related to US aircraft aircraft, Bloomberg said.

China orders airlines to suspend boeing jets, Bloomberg says

China’s decision to suspend purchases of aircraft -related components should increase the maintenance costs of jets flying in the country.

The US and China are involved in a tariff war triggered by Trump’s tumultuous commercial policy.

Last week, China retaliated the US and increased imports of imports that focus on US products to 125%.

The Chinese government is studying ways to assist airlines that rent Boeing jets and are facing higher costs, Bloomberg said.

Boeing did not comment on the matter when sought by Reuters.

A 125% rate significantly increases the cost of Boeing jets for Chinese airlines, making them a financial burden and potentially leading China’s airlines to consider alternatives such as Airbus and the national manufacturer.

China’s three main airlines – Air China, China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines – plan to receive 45, 53 and 81 Boeing aircraft, respectively, between 2025 and 2027.

The tariff war created by Trump runs the risk of paralyzing goods trade between the world’s two largest economies, according to analysts. This trade was valued at over $ 650 billion in 2024.

Trump, who said on Friday he was comfortable with the taxation on Chinese products, also suggested that an agreement with Beijing may be on the horizon, but no understanding has been reached yet.
