Hezbollah leader demands end to negotiations between Lebanon and Israel

The secretary general of the Shiite militia party Hezbollah, Naim Qasem, reiterated this Sunday, in a speech, his rejection of any disarmament initiative by the organization that would lead, in his opinion, to “a new Israeli genocide in Lebanon”.

“The arms monopoly is the current Israeli project and whoever opposes us alongside Israel will be faced in the same way we face Israel,” warned Qasem in his intervention, reported by Lebanese media.

“We do not ask the State to confront the American-Israeli project, but at least it should not facilitate it,” he stated before warning that Israel’s ultimate objective is to disarm Lebanon and progressively occupy it.

Qasem also took the opportunity to criticize the Lebanese government’s concessions and its negotiations with Israel, despite the Israeli military presence on Lebanese soil and continuous attacks by its military forces.

In particular, he recalled Liberation Day, celebrated this May 24th in memory of the day of the Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon after 18 years of occupation. “The resistance was alongside the army and the people in a triad that was able to achieve the milestone of liberation”, he highlighted.

He thus recalled the “humiliating” agreements signed between Lebanon and Israel and how their annulment “was a step towards liberation”. “Concessions from the Lebanese authorities continued until the criminalization of resistance,” he noted of the situation up until 2000, comparing it to the signing of the ceasefire agreement with Israel, which did not stop attacks “while the Lebanese state was unable to enforce it.”

Qasem criticized that “the Lebanese state tells us: help us to disarm so that Israel can come in and kill them and expel their people.”
