Elephant Herd becomes viral when protecting offspring during earthquake in California

Older animals are seen running to surround and protect the two 7 -year -olds

A herd of elephants from the San Diego Zoo became viral after being captured in images while mobilizing to protect their young during the 5.2 magnitude earthquake that hit the region on Monday.

The video shows the five African elephants that make up the herd to walk in different directions, seconds before the earthquake.

Later, at the time of the tremor, the older animals (NDLula, Umanganiy and Khosi) are seen running to surround and protect the two 7-year-olds (Zuli and Mkhaya) from any possible danger caused by the San Diego County in California, shortly after 10:08 (18:08 in Lisbon), Monday.

The recording shows even one of the oldest elephants playing with the trunk in both puppies, as if trying to calm them down, the Efe agency said on Tuesday.

The herd remains in a circle for several minutes, while the older limbs remain alert even after the earthquake ended.

“Elephants have the unique ability to feel sounds through the paws and formed what is known as a ‘warning circle’ during the 5.2 magnitude earthquake that hit southern California this morning,” said Safaris park, in a video on social networks showing the reaction of pachiderm.
