While discussions about increasing the revenue limit for individual microentrepreneurs (MEIs) advance in the Chamber of Deputies, the Ministry of Entrepreneurship, Microenterprise and Small Businesses said, in a note published on Saturday (9th), that the government does not have any proposal in preparation to immediately increase the category’s limits.
“As minister Paulo Pereira has highlighted in his interviews, there is, at the moment, no proposal being drawn up by the government to immediately increase the limits of classification or to establish automatic correction mechanisms for them”, says an excerpt from the note.
According to the ministry, the issue has a major social, economic, labor and fiscal impact. Therefore, he says, it is not possible, this year, to build a technically, legally and financially viable model.
which currently prevents “the construction of a technically, legally and fiscally viable and effective model. The ministry also highlighted that the federal government’s concern with fiscal health is a “pillar that also guides policies to encourage entrepreneurship.”
Despite stating that there is no proposal under study at this time, the ministry informed that it is proposing to other government bodies and society to continue advancing the sector’s agenda, which includes initiatives to train entrepreneurs, create new business opportunities and reduce bureaucracy.
The ministry also added that it has “promoted assessments that can support possible future projects on this topic, starting in 2027”.

Project proposes increase in MEI revenue
As EXTRA showed, the Chamber of Deputies already has a special committee to analyze the project that increases the limit on revenue and hiring of employees by individual microentrepreneurs (MEI). The collegiate was installed at the end of April, under the presidency of deputy Any Ortiz (RS). And deputy Jorge Goetten (Republicanos-SC) was appointed rapporteur.
Currently, MEI can earn up to R$81 thousand per year. Complementary Law Project (PLP) 108/21, already approved by the Senate, increases the permitted annual gross revenue to R$130,000. The proposal also authorizes the hiring of up to two employees, twice the number permitted today. The text is being processed urgently.
