Libertadores and South American will have a minute of silence in honor of Pope Francis

Measure will cover the games of the third round of the two tournaments, which starts this Tuesday (22) and ends on Thursday (24)

The games of the group stage and this week will have a minute of silence in honor of, announced Conmebol on Tuesday (22). “Conmebol reports that, in all matches organized by the institution, a minute of silence will be observed in memory of his holiness, Pope Francis,” he said in a statement. The entity that runs South American football has stated that this is unitable “to the condolences to say goodbye to the first South American pope in history.”

The measure will cover the games of the third round of the two South American club tournaments, which starts on Tuesday and ends on Thursday (24), two sources of the entity said to AFP. On Monday (21), the president of Conmebol, Alejandro Domínguez, expressed his “deep sadness” on social networks for the death of the Argentine pontiff. “Your humility, your message of peace and your passion for football will make an indelible legacy,” he said.

Known for his passion for football, especially for his heart club, San Lorenzo de Almagro and Argentine national team, Pope Jorge Mario Bergoglio died on Monday (21) in the Vatican.
