The new law originates from Bill 2.488/2023, authored by former federal deputy and current mayor of the municipality, Gerlen Diniz. In the Senate, the proposal was analyzed by the Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Commission (CRA), where it received a favorable opinion from Senator Alan Rick (Union-AC).

According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), Sena Madureira is among the largest brown producers in Brazil in the state of Acre. The fruit, known for its high concentration of selenium – an essential mineral for the human organism – is widely used both fresh and flour form, composing various recipes from regional and national cuisine.
During the Senate proposal, Senator Alan Rick stressed that recognition is a strategic tool to boost the economic and social development of the municipality.
“The Brazil nut is Brazilian gold, and recognizing the participation of the municipality of Sena Madureira is a fair measure for that population,” said the parliamentarian.
