Cheaper, healthier and tastier than cod: Czechs overlook this fish so far

Under the term white fish, most of the Czechs still recall the classic Alask cod, which we buy in every supermarket. But few people already know that it has its alternative in another sea fish, which we know under the name Pollock. What kind of kind is?

First we should clarify the concepts of how it is with a classic cod and pollock. Under the designation “cod” we recall practically always Alaskan cod, while at Pollock we can grind a little.

I Pollock is cod but other

In our Pollock stores, it is still not as often to get as the aforementioned Alaska cod. So what fish should we imagine in a lesser known name? Although it may be a surprise, even Pollock is a cod, correctly in Czech would be called cod Sajda. At the moment, it is clear that these fish, like their meat, have much in common.

Tastier with better texture

Let’s take a closer look at Pollock and the properties of the meat that we can get from it. According to many sea fish lovers, Pollock is tastier than the Alaskan cod and its structure is a bit more pleasant for many people for consumption. Even for him, however, when cooking is quite soon disintegrating, which we have to count in the kitchen. But the taste of the meat is pleasant, but really just finely sweet, so this fact certainly does not spoil the taste of the resulting food, on the contrary only underlines the classic taste of sea fish.

No small tie

Pollock comes from the Pacific waters and can grow up to 130 centimeters in length. It is mainly hunted by the coast of Norway in the summer months and its weight reaches up to 18 kilograms. So it is not a little canned fish, but a good catch. It is a little cheaper on the market than Alaskan cod. In the meat, however, it contains more protein, up to 19 grams per 100 grams, which, together with low fat content, is ideal for a reduction diet. Omega-3 fatty acids will then help strengthen the health of the heart, brain, joints, and will also be beneficial for other organs and processes in the body.

What about heavy metals?

Some opponents of sea fish consumption operate discussions about higher than the safe content of mercury. Pollock is also a very good choice in this case, because its resistance to heavy metal absorption gives much better meat usable and pregnant women and children.

Adjust it lightly and naturally

Is Pollock still a novelty for you, so you don’t know how to edit it? You do not have to worry about the affinity with the Alaskan cod that we know well, you can also accommodate its preparation very similarly. Excellent will be baked in the oven with a little butter, lemon and herbs, as well as roasted in a pan. It is also perfect for soups and sauces.

Cream soup in a few minutes

If you would like to prepare a quick creamy fish soup, Pollock is literally ideal for this occasion. Just fry the onion, add root vegetables to the pot like a candle sauce (ie parsley, carrot and celery), fish meat and water. Next, you will need bay leaf, pepper, a little cumin and salt, but you should wait for it later until you taste how much it is needed. After all, you cook sea fish. Once the vegetables are soft, remove the bay leaf from the pot and mix the content with a bar blender. Then just add a piece of butter and milk, or use cream for softening. Those who want to have an even thicker cream can also add one to small cubes sliced ​​potatoes, which during mixing will take care of the perfect structure of the soup.
