The Alpine team would be considering changing the pilot Jack Doohan for Franco Colapinto in the next stage of Formula 1 at the Emilia-Romagna GP in Italy, according to information released by ESPN This Monday (5).
Colapinto, 21, signed with Alpine as a reserve pilot in January this year. The Argentine’s name as a possible substitute for Doohan, who faces difficulties in his debut season in the category.
According to the report, Horacio Marín, CEO of Companhia Argentina YPF, was caught outside the microphone during an interview, stating that Colapinto would be in the team’s car for the race scheduled for May 18, in Italian territory.
Rumors gained strength from Doohan, which includes an accident on the first lap of the Australian Grand Prix on March 16, and received four Penalization points at the China GP a week later.
The 22 -year -old Australian also hit during the second free practice of the Japan GP on April 6.
Despite the criticism, Doohan demonstrated resilience after another incident on the first lap on Sunday (4) when he got involved in a touch with Liam Lawson.
“As everyone knows, nothing was intentional,” said the pilot. “Unfortunately, he was squeezed there. I don’t know, maybe there was a car outside of him. We need to look better, because the outcome was not good for me and I think it didn’t help him either.”
