Pact facilitates the purchase of weapons, the circulation of visitors and the trade of food and drinks
The United Kingdom and the EU (European Union) closed a trade and defense agreement on Monday (19.MAI.2025), the largest partnership since Brexit, a movement that led to the British departure from the block by 2020.
Within the commercial realm is a new sanitary treaty, which will make the import and export of food and drinks more simple. The pact also allows the joint acquisition of weapons.
Here are the main points of the agreement:
- UK and EU can participate in any joint weaponry acquisition;
- British weapons companies can participate in bids within the European Union for the purchase of war products, part of a 150 billion euros program to rear;
- Facilitated access of United Kingdom food and visitors to the European Union;
- British and EU vessels will have access to the waters of each other for 12 years;
- Brussels guarantees the UK the permanent reduction of bureaucracy and border controls that prevented small British producers from exporting to Europe;
- Creation of a program for youth mobility and the participation of British in the program, the exchange of European university students.
United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Strmer said that this is the 3rd major agreement in just 3 weeks, the result of negotiations that extended for 6 months-refers to understanding signatures with the and India. Stmerer said the new EU pact will be “Good for jobs, good for accounts and good for our borders”.
