Ruben Amorim thrills and enthusiastic Manchester United supporters with speech on the pitch

Ruben Amorim went to Manchester United supporters last Sunday with a message of humility, hope and ambition after the 2-0 win against Aston Villa at the closing of the Premier League. Already after the final whistle, the Portuguese coach walked to the center of the Old Trafford lawn and spoke before thousands of supporters, at a time loaded with emotion.

“I know they are very disappointed with me and the team,” he began by saying Amorim, who took the bad results of the season. “I want to thank you never to abandon us. It was hard to see United losing so many games. But now it’s time to move forward. Either we get stuck in the past, or we go together for a new beginning.”

In a speech marked by a combative tone, Amorim recalled a forecast made early on his journey in Manchester. “Six months ago, at the end of my first three games-two wins and a draw-he said the storm was on his way. And it really came. But today I want to tell you that good times are coming.”

The coach also made a point of addressing his players: “I apologize, because I know that sometimes I was not fair to you.”

The answer in the benches was immediate: a massive ovation interrupted the speech several times, in a clear sign of support to the Portuguese coach, who concluded with a firm commitment: “Thank you, and we see each other next season.”
