Olympia, promoted annually by the International Federation of Bodybuilding & Fitness (IFBB) since 1965, is the main sports championship throughout the planet. Those who won the competition were traditionally known for the title of ‘Mister Olympia’.

Currently, the competition has five male categories. They are Wheelchair (division aimed at athletes who move on wheelchairs), Men’s Physique (division that seeks mainly disproportion between pelvic and scapular waistlines; athletes use shorts), Classic Physique (division that groups the most proportional and symmetrical athletes, since their weight limit is defined by their height), Open (no weight limit division, where bulky athletes are) and 212 (division that has the same Open criteria, but proposes an absolute weight limit; thus it becomes more conducive to lesser stature athletes).

Before there were several categories in bodybuilding, the whole sport followed the rules of what Open today, and all Olympia champions were considered Mister Olympia’s. However, this title only applies to super-heavy winners today.

This means that, officially, names such as Chris Bumtead (hexac to tournament champion), Flex Lewis (heptacal champion) and Jeremy Buenia (four -time champion), for example, never reached the post of Mister Olympia, as they won their titles at Classic Physique, 212 and Men’s Physique, respectively.

Check out all the bodybuilders who hit the post of Mister Olympia throughout the story:

Another curiosity about the difference of the other categories for Open is the Sandow trophy, which only the champions of the super-foot division receive. The honor in question honors Eugen Sandow, a British who was the founder of bodybuilding and the main diffuser in bodybuilding history.
