Disapproval of the Lula government retreats after Trump’s tariff, Atlasintel points out

The new round of the atlasintel Bloomberg survey, released on Tuesday (15), shows a slight reduction in disapproval to the government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) after the commercial tension with the United States.

The survey, made between July 11 and 13, points out that 50.3% of respondents disapprove of petista management, a drop of 1.5 percentage points compared to the last survey, conducted in late June.

In the same period, government approval rose from 47.3% to 49.9%, within the margin of error of two percentage points. The movement suggests that the reaction of the Brazilian government at 9 July may have had a positive effect on public perception.

Signs of Recovery

The qualitative evaluation of the Lula administration remains mostly negative: 49.4% classify management as bad or poor, while 43.4% evaluate as great or good. Only 7.2% consider the government regular.

Nevertheless, the numbers indicate a partial recovery in the petista’s image, amid an adverse external scenario and the strong exposure of Lula and ministers in the face of tariff. The institutional offensive to respond to tariffs, with mobilization of productive sectors and regulation of the reciprocity law, was widely publicized, which may have influenced public opinion.

The survey was conducted by Atlasintel in partnership with Latam Pulse and Bloomberg, and listened to 2,841 people by online questionnaire, with a margin of 2 percentage points and 95%confidence level.
