The Israeli security cabinet has given the green light to Benjamín Netyahu’s proposal to occupy the city of Gaza, as a source from the Israeli executive to the web has communicated to the web Axios. The decision, which would have been agreed after more than ten hours of intense debate, is the first step of a much broader offensive that could extend to the rest of the Palestinian enclave.
The operation, led by the Israel Defense Forces (FDI), will include the evacuation of around one million Palestinian civilians. His intention to “control all of Gaza” to end Hamas, ensuring that he does not intend to domain over the territory: “We want a safe strip and deliver Gaza to the Arab forces to govern it correctly.”
Despite the support of the Israel Security Cabinet, high military controls, including the Chief of the General Staff, Eyal Zamir, have publicly shown their rejection of the operation. Zamir has warned the Israeli prime minister that “he is heading towards a trap” in which he would put the life of the hostages that remain in the strip and force Israel to govern directly over more than two million Palestinians in Gaza.
