This company is responsible for the power supply in the state capital. The city’s decision arises amid a wave of criticism and complaints from the population about the quality of the service provided by the concessionaire in recent years. Residents of the city have faced frequent interruptions in energy supply, especially during storms, which has generated significant damage and widespread dissatisfaction.

The concession of electricity, although it is federal responsibility, covers both the municipality of São Paulo and the metropolitan region. Mayor Ricardo Nunes has expressed his desire to remove Enel from the operation, but faces limitations due to the federal nature of the contract. The National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel) is the entity responsible for managing this contract. The city’s attorney general pointed out that the population cannot continue at the mercy of the dealership’s inefficiency, which, according to her, ignores the environmental and urban particularities of the region.

On the other hand, Enel defends itself by stating that it is investing in improvements and hiring teams to perform preventive work before rain. However, distrust of the company persists among local residents and authorities. The current contract with Enel is scheduled to end in 2028, but the city seeks to avoid automatic renewal without concrete guarantees of service improvements.
