He made one move with two goals. The US president called for a new population census without taking into account “persons who are present” in the US.
This is part of his cruel policy against illegal, but he has another goal. Who is he? To get extra seats in Congress. The inventory of the population determines, inter alia, the number of seats distributed in each state.
“I asked our Ministry of Commerce to start working on a new, very accurate inventory, based on current data and numbers (…). People who are illegally in our country will not be taken to the inventory, “the US president wrote on the Truth Social platform.
How Trump wants to change balances
So what does Trump want to do and where is he based? Its goal is obviously in the 2026 interim elections. The Pew Research Center polls estimates that by removing immigrants without legal documents from the American inventory, many states would have been deprived of a Congress seat in 2020, such as California.
The US president has announced that his government will support this new census “on the results and information received in the 2024 presidential election”.
The American Constitution, dating back to 1790, predicts that an inventory takes place every 10 years and counts “all people in every state”, including these immigrants without legal documents.
The next census is expected to take place in 2030, but Donald Trump did not report any date. The US president’s proposal is part of the recent Republican actions to redesign the constituencies to their benefit, such as Texas or Ohio.
“I won Texas,” Donald Trump told CNBC television on Tuesday, arguing that with this lead in the last presidential election, Republicans acquired the right to win “five more seats” in the November 20 elections.
