In a summer where Europe’s tourist destinations again receive thousands of travelers, reports of less positive experiences that raise questions about prices, customer treatment and consumer practices also arise. A trip to the Greek islands is often associated with paradise beach scenarios and hospitality, but the experience of a Canadian tourist in Mykonos has become viral for the wrong reasons, according to the Daily Express. During the holidays, Christina Ford, known on social networks by the @insearchofmrdarcy profile, reported being “wrong” for unexpected costs and ensures that she will not return to the destination.
Unexpected Farature No Hotel
The tourist, who regularly shares tourism content, said she received a hotel account that left her in shock. In addition to the stay and meals, several additional fees were charged, use of the pool and even an automatic gratification. Christina also stated that at the time of payment, she was pressured to leave an extra tip, with employees staying with her while introducing the card.
According to the same source, the hotel unit where it was housed had a price of about 700 euros a night for a three -day stay. Despite considering the quality of the hotel satisfactory, the traveler refused to pay the additional tip and expressed its indignation with the practice.
Complaints multiply
The Canadian tourist said, “This is insane. Mykonos, I don’t know what’s going on with you. In so many years traveling, I’ve never seen anything like that.” He added that he suspected that the approach would have been different if he were Greek, not foreign often confused with the American.
Negative experiences were not limited to the hotel. Christina also reported that in some island bars and nightclubs, she faced situations she classified as discriminatory.
One of the spaces will have charged 100 euros just for the entrance, even though it is away from the full stocking, while in another establishment was asked about traveling alone, according to the source mentioned above.
Reactions divided into social networks
Complaints generated debate among users. According to the newspaper, some harshly criticized the traveler, stating that Mykonos is an expensive destination by nature and that those who are not willing to pay should not choose the island. Others, however, have agreed with the complaint, pointing out that the chore of the tipping is becoming excessive and confusing for visitors.
Despite the criticism, the case has gained international prominence and put Mykonos again at the center of the discussion of luxury tourism in Greece and the boundaries between hospitality and the added costs that can ward off visitors.
