The Environmental Company of the State of (Cetesb) announced the suspension of authorizations for subsidiaries throughout the state, starting this Thursday (28), for a period of 30 days. This decision aims to reduce the risks of forest fires, covering sugarcane straw burns, agricultural activities and pest control actions. During this interval, new requests for burns will not be accepted, and the suspension may be extended if the drought continues.
Adriano Queiroz, CETESB’s director of control and licensing, pointed out that this action is a preventive measure, essential for protecting air quality and mitigating fire risks. The initiative is part of the SP Fireless Program, which has as its main goal the prevention and fire fighting in green areas of the state.
In August 2025, the state of São Paulo observed a significant reduction of 75% in the number of burning outbreaks compared to the same month of the previous year. Between August 1 and 15, only 148 occurrences were recorded. This decrease is attributed to a combination of factors, including investments in monitoring, more favorable weather conditions and training of local teams.
