Javier Bardem makes pro-Palestina protest at Emmy

Spanish actor said he cannot “work with someone who justifies or supports genocide”

Spanish actor Javier Bardem made a pro-passage protest during Emmy’s red carpet on Sunday (14.Set.2025) in Los Angeles. He stated to be part of a group with 1,500 artists who have committed not to work with Israeli institutions.

Nominated as best supporting actor for the series “Monsters: Menendez Brothers – Parents Assassins ”Bardem was defeated by Owen Cooper (adolescence). In the document, the signatories declare that they will not work with Israeli film institutions and companies involved in “genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people”.

The commitment states that examples of complicity include “Camouflage or justify genocide and apartheid and/or sign partnerships with the government that commits them”.

Signatories include names known as actors Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Ralph Fiennes, Guillermo Del Toro, Olivia Colman, Mark Ruffalo, Tilda Swinton, Javier Bardem, as well as Yorgos Lanthimos directors, Ava Duvernay and Asif Kapadia.

Bardem stated that the initiative does not target individuals based on identity: “The targets are the companies and film institutions that are accomplices and are camouflage or justifying genocide and its apartheid regime ”.

The initiative was the subject of reaction from the API (Israeli Producers Association), which classified the measure as “deeply wrong”.

Paramount responded to the letter by stating that it does not agree with the boycott, arguing that silencing creative artists based on its nationality does not promote a better understanding or contribute to the cause of peace.
