Negotiations to end the war in the Gaza range do not have “validity” after Israel attacked Hamas resident negotiators at Qatar, said the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Catari on Tuesday (16).
The statement raises new doubts about the continuity of the only diplomatic way for a ceasefire.
“What kind of negotiations can be done about what?” Asked Majed Al-Anari at a press conference in Doha. “There is no validity in negotiations when one party wants to murder anyone who is willing to dialogue with the other,” he added.
“Our focus now is to protect our sovereignty and we will not analyze other questions until it is resolved,” added the spokesman.
The Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, was on Tuesday, the country’s capital, to meet with the Emir do Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, where cooperation in defense was discussed between the two countries.
Spokesman Majed Al-Anai stated that Israel’s attack on Qatar, an important US ally, accelerated the need for a “renewed strategic defense agreement.”
“This attack, of course, accelerates the need for a renewed strategic defense agreement between us and the United States. It is not something new in itself, but it was certainly accelerated,” he said in a briefing after Rubio’s visit.
The same day the Israeli army announced the launch of an offensive terrestrial in the city of Gaza.
“If any country in the world can, this is Qatar. They are the ones who can do it,” said the head of American diplomacy by leaving Israel to go to Doha.
