The dismissal of Christian Brückner, suspected of disappearing Madeleine McCann, raises concerns from the applicants and psychologists.
German citizen Christian Brückner (48), the main suspect in the case of the disappearance of the British girl Madeleine McCann in Portugal in 2007, was released on Wednesday from prison where he served a punishment for another crime. The prosecutor’s office has never had enough relevant evidence to accuse the Maddie case against Brückner, TASR reports, according to the AFP report.
The applicants believe that Brückner was murdered by three -year -old Madeleine in May 2007. The girl disappeared from her family’s holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in the south of Portugal, while her parents dinner in a nearby restaurant. This was the day before her fourth birthday. Brückner denies any wiring in this case.
Sexual violence and punishment
In the past, he committed several crimes of sexual violence. So far, he has been serving a seven-year sentence in a prison in Sehnd, Germany for rape 72-year-old American tourist in 2005. It happened in the same resort, where Madeleine lost two years later.
In October 2024, the court in Germany deprived him of all allegations in an unrelated process on the rape and sexual abuse of children in Portugal.
Concerns about returning to violence
The German law enforcement authorities at the beginning of September expressed concern that Brückner could escape from the country after being released from prison. The chief plaintiff, in the case of Madeleine Christian Wolters for AFP, then told AFP that he believed that this man remains “fundamentally dangerous”. He added that the suspect “did not undergo any therapy or similar treatment in prison, which means that from our point of view we must assume a recurrence”. This assumption was also confirmed by an expert in the field of psychiatry, which was judged by Brückner.
The case of the missing Maddie has attracted the attention of the world and remains unresolved.
