Right and left only make sense to the elites, says Bolivar Lamounier

The sociologist and political scientist, Bolivar Lamounierstated that the ideological polarization between right and left is a restricted phenomenon to intellectual elitesbeing little understood by most of the population.

The statement was made during its participation in the “WW Special” program, by CNNwho debated the political rearrangement of the right after by by the Supreme Court (STF).

According to Lamounier, this political language is proper to sociologists, political and political scientists, finding no significant resonance in population mass. He points out that this pattern is not exclusive to Brazil, but a globally observed reality.

“Political scientists in the world know that this right and left expression only makes sense in the elites, in high educational people. There are no countries in the world where people are able to babble something with the slightest meaning. I mean, the maximum that this comes is 25%. This is a language for sociologists, political scientists, politicians, it means nothing to the mass of the population,” he explained.

Bolsonarism decline

In analyzing the current political scenario, Lamounier classified former President Bolsonaro as one. According to the political scientist, Bolsonaro’s rise made sense in a certain period because he managed to capture “the conductivity and atmosphere of a national mood, anger of everything, to want to ‘kick the bucket’.”

However, Lamounier projects a rapid decrease in the political relevance of the movement. He foresees that with the condemned former president, both he and his fans “mean nothing, they will tend, asymptotically, to go to zero, almost zero.”

“Therefore, this is a factor that is quickly disappearing from Brazilian politics,” he said.

Criticism of Lula and Economic Alert

The sociologist also approached. According to Lamounier, the clash with Donald Trump And the sovereignty speech offered Lula an opportunity to play a role as a statesman.

“Donald Trump gave him [Lula] A chance of gold to stage the role he likes, the role of statesman, that we are not going to be a colony. It’s the best chance of his life: to pretend he’s a statesman, ”he said.

Nevertheless, citing his age (79 years) and tiredness. He argued that “out of this subject with Trump, he has nothing to say to Brazil.”

The political scientist also warns of Brazil’s economic future. It foresees a more severe crisis over the next two decades, if the country maintains a growth of only 2.5% per year in per capita income, a phenomenon known as.

“I have a profound conviction that over the next 20 years, growing 2.5% per year, the income per captures, we will have a much more serious crisis, not for fragile souls as we have had, but much more serious, because it is the so -called average lace trap,” he concluded.
