I will add the peon to it before September ends. It will drown in a sea of flowers

Peony is a popular garden plant, delightful with magnificent, full flowers with a wonderful smell. However, she can be capricious in care – you can’t forget about her even in autumn if we want her to look beautiful in the next season. Fertilization is necessary. We present a recipe for a natural conditioner.

In September, a peony needs fertilizers that will strengthen its root system and immunize her before the upcoming frosts. So let’s not focus on the leaves, so we do not provide the plant with nitrogen conditioners.

Instead, let’s choose fertilizers rich in phosphorus and potassium. If we provide the bush with the right dose of these minerals, it will not only survive the winter, but also bloom abundantly in the next season.

You don’t have to buy expensive preparations from the garden store. You can prepare a natural conditioner. We will need ingredients, i.e.

  • woody ash – contains potassium, phosphorus, calcium and other microelements that support flowering and root development;
  • – improves soil structure, enriches it with useful microorganisms;
  • basalt flour – It is a source of silica, improving the overall condition of plants and strengthening their resistance to diseases and pests.

To make a fertilizer for peony, we must mix wood ash and compost in a 1: 1 ratio and add 2 tablespoons of basalt flour to them. Such a mixture is sprinkled with a specimen, dig its ground and finally water.

Another important procedure that needs to be performed for peony at the end of September is pruning. Due to the fact that the leaves turn yellow, we cut it low at the ground. We only leave 2-3 cm of dry branches.

If we do not cut a bush, such old, yellowing parts will be an ideal environment for the development of gray mold and other pathogenic pathogens. Then the specimen will already get early in spring.

After fertilization We also recommend mulching the plantwhich will limit the development of weeds, will help maintain an appropriate moisture level and protect against freezing.

So we put a layer of bark, needle or peat. It should be from 5 to 7 cm. However, do not overdo it with the amount of material, because the peony does not prefer excessive compaction of the substrate. The litter should be removed in spring so that the young shoots have access to the sun.
