Nurses, cooks in schools, maintenance workers, porters or other employees who take care of children, seniors and sick daily. They received on Tuesday from the government coalition a message that their work is not worthy of dignified and transparent salary. This was declared by the opposition KDH in response to the rejection of their proposal, which would guarantee that the lowest tariff salary in the public service will never fall below the minimum wage.
„We wanted to end the long -term trauma of babysitters or auxiliary staff who have a basic salary in the tables less than the minimum wage. Instead of a fair tariff, the difference is artificially called through a personal assessment, which loses its original meaning – to reward quality work. This is unsustainable especially in social services where thousands of workers are missing and many leave for low wages and burnout”Said one of the petitioners Andrea Turčanová (KDH).
Member of the European Parliament Miriam Lexmann (KDH) pointed out that part of the nursing service is also paid from Eurofunds. Employees in this area could therefore be more paid, but there is also the amount of wages affects the setting of their salaries in Slovakia. “Therefore, I called on government officials and asked for the situation,” she stressed and criticized the rejection of the proposal of the movement.
“If the government’s majority has refused our proposal, we call on it to take it over, submit it and ensure its approval. It is a basic duty of the state – to comply with its own laws and guarantee that no one in the public service will have a salary less than the minimum wage in the table,“Turčanová added.
