The minister’s inauguration Edson Fachin as President of the Supreme Court (STF)this Monday (29), had gestures of friendship from the House and Senate, absence of the governor of São Paulo, Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans), and the strong defense of the Brazilian court and democracy in speeches of the authorities.
Fachin’s ceremony brought together authorities from the three powers and governors of different political spectra, such as the governors of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União), and Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSD).
The President of the Republic, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), and the deputy, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), as well as several ministers from the current federal management, such as Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, planning and budgeting, Simone Tebet, were also present at the ceremony.

“Our expectation is simple: even in the spread and conflict, to live without renouncing peace. It is democracy that materializes this ideal; however, it is institutionality and justice that make it possible,” he said in one of the excerpts of the speech.
The minister also stated that judicial independence is not a privilege, but a condition. “A submissive judiciary, whoever it is, even if it is populism, loses its credibility. Jurisdictional provision is not a spectacle. It requires containment,” he said.
“Every Brazilian judge is a constitutional magistrate and independently wears the toga of the Inter -American System of Human and Fundamental Rights,” he added.

Gonet said the partnership between Moraes and Fachin was successful in the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), where they had already worked together. For the Attorney General, the harmony between the two magistrates is “a pledge of tranquility that the country’s virile and technical defense is assured.”
While the president of OAB (Brazilian Bar Association), Beto Simonetti, argued that democracy is “non -negotiable” and that it is “urgent to reaffirm the country’s legal sovereignty.”
According to Simonetti, the sovereignty of a country is measured by the strength of its institutions. “And no institution is strong if democracy is at risk. There is no sovereignty without democracy,” he added.
Edson Fachin and Alexandre de Moraes will be in the presidency and vice presidency, respectively, of the STF and the CNJ (National Council of Justice) during the 2025-2027 biennium.
