The PF (Federal Police) will Investigate organized crime connection with alcoholic beverages with methanol in the state of São Paulo. The information was determined by CNN with federal government sources.
During a press conference on the morning of Tuesday (30), in Brasilia, the Minister of Justice Ricardo Lewandowski said that the objective of the inquiry is verify the origin of the methanol and the distribution network of adulterated drinks. According to the minister, everything that indicates that this acting transcends a single state.

Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) reported that it received 16 notifications about people with suspected methanol poisoning. Of these, 6 cases have been confirmed and 10 are still in calculation in four municipalities of São Paulo – São Paulo, Sao Bernardo do Campo, Limeira and Itapecerica da Serra.
The federal government held a meeting to monitor the episodes on Monday (29). Until now, three deaths linked to adulterated drink intake with the substance were confirmed.
The meeting was coordinated by Senad (National Secretariat of Drug Policy), the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, and was attended by various areas of the government to define immediate measures regarding the ten episodes of intoxication, which are investigated.
During the meeting, it was decided that Senacon (National Consumer Secretariat) should issue an alert to Procons across the country, with guidelines aimed at suppliers and consumers about the safety in marketing and consumption of alcohol.
In addition, the Ministry of Health will be responsible for providing cases, reinforcing that all health facilities should follow the notification protocol for suspected cases of intoxication. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock will be responsible for evaluating any surveillance actions.
At the meeting, the government determined that the SAR (fast alert system) is responsible for monitoring episodes and updating data.
