Ceasefire was accepted by both parties on Wednesday (Oct 8) and signed this Thursday (Oct 9)
The Israeli Army continued with air strikes in the Gaza Strip this Thursday (Oct 9, 2025), one day after the announcement that both the Israeli government and Hamas accepted the ceasefire plan proposed by US President Donald Trump (Republican Party).
Medical sources informed the agency that at least 7 people were injured in the attacks this Thursday (Oct 9), in several areas of Gaza. Columns of smoke from bombings were reported rising from the affected areas, as well as gunfire.
This Thursday, the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) began operational preparations “aimed at implementing the agreement” Hamas and Israel signed the agreement this morning in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh, but its implementation still depends on approval from the Israeli government.
According to Shosh Bedrosian, spokesman for the government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu (Likud, right), speaking to journalists this Thursday, the peace agreement should come into force on Friday afternoon (Oct 10), Brasília time, if approved in a vote with Israel’s top leadership.
The conflict began in , when Hamas led an attack on Israel, killing around 1,200 people. They took around 250 hostages. Since then, , including civilians and fighters, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, has reduced the territory’s infrastructure to ruins.
On September 29, Trump unveiled a plan to end the war between Israel and Hamas and create the Palestinian State. Among the proposals is the exchange of Israeli hostages for 250 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to death and 1,700 residents of the enclave detained after the October 7, 2023 attack.
An official familiar with the details of the agreement told the New York Times that all living hostages, believed to be around 20, must be released immediately, probably over the weekend. According to Trump, the release will take place on Monday (Oct 13). The remains of up to 28 hostages will be returned in stages, the official said.
It is still unclear whether all points of Trump’s proposal have been accepted by Israel and Hamas and whether the war in the Gaza Strip will actually end. Hamas has publicly rejected Netanyahu’s demand for disarmament, and there has been no mention of the group’s weapons in statements about the deal by Israel, Qatar, the United States or Hamas itself.

According to Trump’s plan, with the hostage exchange carried out, the US government proposes amnesty to Hamas fighters who agree to “coexist” in the region with Israel. Those who wish to leave Palestine will be able to do so safely. According to the US president, demilitarization will open space for the entry of humanitarian aid under the supervision of the UN (United Nations), the Red Cross and other bodies.
The White House mentioned the creation of a temporary transition government “technocratic and apolitical”. This would be commanded by Palestinians under the supervision of a “Peace Council” led by Trump and with the presence of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair (Labor Party, center-left) and heads of state and government to be announced.
An economic development plan will also be implemented to reestablish energy lines in the Gaza Strip. A special economic zone will be created later with preferential rates.
If all conditions are met, the US said the plan paves the way for “self-determination and the creation of a Palestinian state”.
