US President Donald Trump wants Spain to commit as soon as possible to increasing defense spending to an amount equivalent to 5% of GDP and threatens to expel it from NATO if it does not do so.
During a press conference at the White House, after a bilateral meeting he held with the president of Finland, Trump assured that the 32 allies committed to raising defense spending from 2% to 5%. “T, Spain. We have to call them and find out why they have been left behind. And they are doing well too. The funny thing is that, thanks to many of the things we have done, they are doing well. They have no excuse not to do it. But that’s okay. Maybe we should expel them from NATO,” he said at a press conference at the White House after a bilateral meeting with the president of Finland, Alexander Stubb.
