The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said this Wednesday (8) that he is considering traveling to the Middle East over the weekend to follow negotiations on a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
“I might go there at the end of the week. Maybe on Sunday, actually,” Trump said in a statement at the White House.
According to the president, an agreement to end the conflict, which has lasted two years, is “very close” to being reached.

The negotiations are being led in Egypt by Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor, Jared Kushner, and the special envoy for the region, Steve Witkoff. The goal is to reach an understanding between Hamas and Israel that will end the fighting and pave the way for broader political negotiations.
The conflict, which began in 2023, caused thousands of deaths and worsened the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, in addition to increasing Israel’s diplomatic isolation. Trump’s possible trip signals an attempt to reinforce US political weight in negotiations.
