The CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) that investigates irregular discounts on benefits had a new scene of turmoil this Thursday (9), with deputies and lawyers shouting and pointing fingers at each other.
The riot began after Bolsonaro deputy Maurício Marcon (Podemos-RS) said that the deponent would be arrested. The person giving testimony is Milton Batista Souza Filho, president of Sindapi (National Union of Retirees, Pensioners and Elderly People), one of the entities investigated. The union’s vice-president is José Ferreira da Silva, brother of the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio da Silva.
“The PT will forget you there in jail. You will stay there because you are going to clean up the situation, perhaps for Lula’s brother. And then, my friend, you end up with an expensive lawyer, you end up with protection, because then you are a figurehead”, said Marcon.
Then, one of Baptista’s lawyers, Bruno Borragine, protested and asked to speak. The following dialogue took place, shouting:
Marcon: My God in heaven, what did I say?!
Borage: In order yes! I can speak in order. I will speak in order as many times as necessary!
Marcon: I have a mandate, friend! I have a mandate here!
Borage: The federal law was approved in this House! I can and will speak!
Marcon: Pointing the finger at parliamentarians?!
Borage: You’re pointing the finger at me too!
The president of the CPI, senator Carlos Viana (Podemos-MG), tried to resume the meeting, but another focus of turmoil emerged.
Deputy Luiz Lima (Novo-RJ) and another Baptista lawyer, Paulo Roberto Petri da Silva, pointed at each other and shouted. “Don’t point the finger at me!” the deputy exclaimed repeatedly.
After a few minutes, Viana managed to regain control of the meeting and allowed Marcon to finish his speech. “I will give you back the two minutes, but your Excellency will make an agreement with me: you will no longer address the deponent”, said the president of the collegiate.
“At no point did I say anything wrong. We reached the extreme of a lawyer, who I respect, pointing the finger at a parliamentarian. This is not mother Joana’s house,” declared Marcon.
There was one at the end of September at another meeting of the INSS CPI. The commission’s rapporteur, Alfredo Gaspar (União-AL), called the deponent –Antonio Carlos Antunes, who became known as “Careca do INSS”– a thief. Lawyer Cleber Lopes protested, members of the collegiate reacted and the riot ensued.
