The Minister of General Advocacy of the Union, Jorge Messias, appears as the main name to fill the vacancy that will be left by Luís Roberto Barroso in the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The assessment is by Flávia Maia, Judiciary analyst at JOTA, during the WWis that Messias stands out for being evangelical, in addition to his loyalty and closeness to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
According to Maia, especially in times of tension between Congress and the STF. Its performance on sensitive topics, such as the IOF issue, and its direct negotiations highlight its strategic position.
But the important element is its connection with the evangelical community. “A point that draws attention is the fact that Messias is evangelical; it would be a good nod, for an election year, for Lula to nominate an evangelical minister for the STF”, highlights Maia. This indication would signal the government’s openness to this group’s agenda.
According to Maia, (PSD-MG), especially Gilmar Mendes, who has already publicly expressed his preference.
However, the final decision may be influenced by other strategic factors. There is speculation about possible alternative plans for Pacheco in Minas Gerais, which could impact his nomination to the STF.
