PT leader in the Chamber presents a project that increases taxes on bets

The leader of PT (Workers’ Party) in the Chamber of Deputies, Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ)presented a bill which increases to taxation of bets (betting houses) 12% to 24%.

The increase in the tariff 12% to 18% was foreseen in the MP (provisional measure) with alternatives to increasing the IOF (Financial Operations Tax). However, in a defeat for the government last Wednesday (8),

Lindbergh’s proposal, which counts the signatures of the PT bench in the House, provides that 12% of the tax rate on bets will be allocated to investments in the health system.

The parliamentarian claims that records of care for people with symptoms of increased 300% between 2022 e 2024.

“Ludopathy, in addition to having strong impacts on the mental health of the gambler and his family, can have a major impact on personal and family finances, leading to heavy debt”states Lindbergh in the project.

The deputy also argues that, even with the increase in taxation, the Brazilian tariff would still be below the rate of countries such as Germany e France.

“Therefore, to try to reduce this epidemic, in addition to all the regulation that has been developed by the federal government, we must increase taxes on bets so that the bets become a little less attractive and so that the country obtains the necessary resources to invest in its health system”concluded the PT leader in the Chamber.
