Spanish police find cocaine in containers with frozen meat from Brazil

The drug was found in port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The Civil Guard has concentrated its efforts, in the Canaries, on the inspection and surveillance of boats and containers with the aim of prevent “transatlantic drug trafficking”.

Spanish authorities found 11 kilos of cocaine in a port in the Canary Islands inside containers with frozen meat from Brazil, the Spanish government announced this Monday. .

These containers with frozen meat are usually used repeatedly to hide drugs, said the Civil Guard, in a statement explaining that the cocaine was found in a series of inspections of six containers who passed through port of Las Palmas de Gran Canariafrom different countries and with different loads.

According to the Civil Guard, the inspectors focused on a boat with containers of frozen meat, as they are often used to hide drugs and also because of “later movements” to a first inspection of the company for which the cargo was destined.

It was during a second inspection that the cocaine was found, distributed by 11 packages of around one kilo each.

The Civil Guard says that it has concentrated efforts, in the Canaries, on the inspection and surveillance of boats and containers with the aim of prevent “transatlantic drug trafficking”especially along routes that it identifies as “calientes” (“hot”), which include countries of origin such as Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay, Peru and Panama.
