Brazil is about to promote one of the biggest changes in driver licensing process of recent decades. The project of Driver’s license without driving school advances within the Ministry of Transport and must affect the lives of those who dream of obtaining their license and the entire economic chain of driving schools.
The change will be made through a Resolution of the National Traffic Council (Contran) and aims to simplify the process of obtaining a National Driving License (CNH)making it more accessible and less bureaucratic. Today, it reaches R$ 4.200lasting up to one year. The idea is to reduce deadlines and costs by up to 80%.

How to get a driving license without driving school:
Basic requirements
They remain the same: the candidate must have 18 years or olderknow how to read and write, have an identity document and CPF. Identity can be confirmed digitally via gov.br accountin the case of those who choose distance learning.
Opening of the process
The request may be made onlinedirectly on the Senatranwith digital monitoring by Renach (National Driving License Registry).
Theoretical course
The next step is to take the theoretical course, which can be in person or remotely at driving schools, approved institutions or at the Ministry of Transport itself. There is no requirement for the current 45 class hours.
Biometric collection
After completing the course, the candidate must complete the biometrics (photo, fingerprints and signature) no DMV of the state, mandatory for all stages.
Psychological and physical and mental fitness examination
The candidate must take the medical and psychological examinations as currently foreseen. A new feature, students will be able to search for clinics
Practical classes (optional)
Once approved, the candidate will be able to take practical driving classes, without the current minimum requirement of 20 hours of practical classes. They continue to be available at driving schools or from independent instructors.
Theory exam
A theoretical test remains mandatory and can be done online or in persondepending on the local structure. The candidate must get 70% of questions to be approved.
Driving test
Practical exam also continues, administered by Detran. The test starts from 100 pointsand the candidate must maintain 90 or more to pass.
Permission and definitive driver’s license
After approval, the driver receives the Driving Permit (PPD)valid for one year. If you do not commit serious or very serious infractions, the Permanent driver’s license is issued automatically.
The federal government’s proposal is still in progress. public consultation phase. After the deadline, the National Traffic Secretariat will evaluate the contributions and arrive at a final text.
