The first political decision taken by the former deputy (-SP) and the senator (PL-RJ) without public approval from his father, the former president (PL), faces resistance from the right.
Allies of the former president criticize the choice of the president of Alesp (Legislative Assembly of ), André do Prado (PL), for the Senate in São Paulo, made by Eduardo with the agreement of Flávio. The main argument is that André would not belong to the political group — he would be a member of the centrão.
A member of the group told the reporter, with reservations, that there is nothing to explain the nomination of the state deputy to the ticket and that, therefore, there is no plausible justification for presenting himself to the voter.
Bolsonaro had already expressed, according to allies, that, if Eduardo was unable to run for the position, his nominee would be the vice-mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Mello Araújo (PL). Eduardo, however, in response to requests from the president of the PL, , and (Republicans), opted for André.
While he was detained in the unit known as Papudinha, in Brasília, Bolsonaro was being sought out by allies to endorse state candidacies and resolve internal conflicts within Bolsonarism. In February, a survey of Sheet showed that, within a period of one month, the STF (Supreme Federal Court) was interested in approving their candidacies.
Since being placed under house arrest at the end of March, the former president has been prevented from receiving visits, with the exception of his children, lawyers and doctors.
This Tuesday (12), Prado said, during an event in São Paulo on public security promoted by Tarcísio, that he was chosen “by Eduardo Bolsonaro, by Flávio Bolsonaro, by governor Tarcísio de Freitas and by the Liberal Party”.
“On a daily basis, these people [que criticam] They will know me and they will know why Eduardo chose me, what I bring to Flávio Bolsonaro’s campaign in São Paulo”, said the state deputy, further stating that he is a “loyal” person.
“Eduardo, together with Flávio, would never make an announcement in support of my candidacy if I didn’t have President Bolsonaro’s approval. I’m very calm about this support”, added André, acknowledging, however, that the former president’s preferred name was Mello Araújo.
HAS Sheet the vice-mayor of São Paulo said: “If Tarcísio likes André do Prado so much, why didn’t he take him to be vice-mayor, which would be the right thing to do?”
Mello Araújo stated that he did not lobby for his candidacy for the Senate nor does he maintain contact with the former president’s children, but that he tried to schedule a visit to Bolsonaro for the 18th, which was denied by STF minister Alexandre de Moraes. As he did not resign from his position within the deadline, the vice-mayor can no longer run for office this year.
“The PL has an important role [na eleição]he should be the protagonist [em São Paulo]and was left out. And then Tarcísio, to alleviate it, started campaigning for André do Prado to be senator”, said Mello Araújo.
The federal deputy (Novo), who also intends to run for the Senate in São Paulo, must compete for the votes of the right-wing electorate against André and fellow federal deputy Guilherme Derrite (PP). Last weekend, Salles insinuated that the appointment was the result of a financial agreement.
In a post on “If I do that, I’ll give up immediately. If I don’t, it’s because they really don’t want to return the money from that agreement with the center.”
A Sheet He approached the deputy to ask about the publication, but he did not want to give details.
At this Tuesday’s event, André replied: “Salles has to know that I was chosen from the Bolsonarist group.”
Valdemar was contacted via WhatsApp, but did not respond.
Eduardo published a video on YouTube in response, with the title: “Not here, Salles”. “He [Salles] He started slandering, saying that I’m a criminal, that I’m corrupt, that I’m accepting money in exchange for voting, telling people to vote for André do Prado.”
Tarcísio’s allies, with reservations, cite three factors that led the governor to work for André’s nomination: the loyalty shown by the president of Alesp to date, the past of friction between the governor and Mello Araújo —who has already made a series of public criticisms of his work— and the loss of hope in Derrite’s victory.
The reporter contacted Tarcísio via email at Palácio dos Bandeirantes, but received no response. At the end of last week, after confirming André’s choice, in an interview with Jovem Pan radio, he said that the president of Alesp would be the candidate with the most votes for the Senate. “He is very aggregator. He will get votes from the right, he will mobilize votes from the center,” he stated.
A Sheet He contacted Flávio’s team to discuss André’s nomination, but received no response.
