Academic sculptor Milan Marciňa died at the age of 79. The Nitra artist, sculptor, teacher, restorer and monumentalist left us on October 14, the Nitra town hall informed.

Marciňa is the author of the stone pillar of partner towns in front of the City Hall in Nitra, the aluminum sculpture Flower on the Chrenová housing estate or the People relief for the health center in Nitra. He also carved the entrance pylons to the city of Nitra and is the author of the insignia of the mayor’s chain of the city. Among his famous works are bronze busts, including a bust of General Golian for the village of Golianovo, or a three-meter aluminum statue of Mother near the kindergarten in the Sever housing estate in Šahá.
In 2011, the artist received the Nitra Mayor’s Award for lifetime achievement and contribution to Nitra culture. His works are owned by galleries and private collectors not only in Slovakia, but also abroad. For many years, he also created prizes for the winners of the international Agrofilm festival, thanks to which his wooden figurines reached various countries around the world.
Academic sculptor Marciňa was born on August 25, 1946 in Trenčín, he spent his childhood in the village of Lazy pod Makytou. He studied at the High School of Art Industry in Bratislava between 1960 and 1964 under the guidance of professors Anton Drexler and Ludwig Korkoš working in the carving department.
He graduated from the College of Fine Arts in Bratislava in 1970. After its completion, he became an assistant professor at the Department of Art Education of the Faculty of Education in Nitra, where he worked for a decade. After completing his teaching activities, he worked as a freelancer from 1980. He was a member of the Association of Artists of Western Slovakia and the Association of Nitrian Artists N’ 89.
