World Cup: Trump plans to trump in Democratic headquarters – 10/16/2025 – The World Is a Ball

Trumpar (intransitive verb): acting in an inappropriate, intransigent, inconsequential and irresponsible manner, in narcissistic behavior and following a certain ideology, strictly to obtain political gains, without demonstrating sensitivity or respect for a significant portion of individuals and society. Generally used in the participle (e.g.: He gave a trumpada to please his followers).

The verb trumpar does not exist, I just invented it, as well as creating a definition for it, which can be improved.

Why did I do this? To insert into the language an entry that seeks to define the way of acting of the President of the United States, the Republican Donald Trump, until now the character of the year, whom I consider a crazy populist trumpeting on several fronts to be the protagonist of every day, be it with trade tariffs, attacks on Democrats and Venezuela, debatable actions in dealing with wars (in the Middle East and in Ukraine), whether on any subject.

One of them is the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the USA (with 78 of the 104 games), Mexico (13 games) and Canada (13 games).

Regarding the organization, everything is agreed between FIFA, the owner of the biggest football event on the planet, and the host cities – 11 of the 16 are in the USA –, however Trump has, for some time now, threatened to veto the matches in some of them: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle and, this week, Boston.

Even without consistent evidence, it claims that these locations have security gaps in the fight against crime and disorder, which would compromise the ability to host the World Cup. Coincidentally, they are all managed by Democrats, opposed to Trumpist ideals.

“She’s not good,” Trump said of Michelle Wu, the mayor of Boston, whom he sees as a “radical leftist.” “We can get it out of there [as partidas da Copa]”, he concluded during the meeting he had with the president of Argentina, Javier Milei, one of his allies.

The republican, in fact, counts on FIFA’s top leader, Gianni Infantino, who he calls “phenomenal”, to be looked after if he decides to remove cities from the World Cup that he considers “enemies”. In theory, Trump does not have the power to make such a decision, but, as he believes he can do anything, he acts as if he does.

And in practice? There it is. Would Infantino be sufficiently submissive to the most powerful head of state on the planet? Trump is sure it will. “If someone is doing a bad job, I call Gianni and say ‘move to another city’. Even if I don’t like it, he would do it, easily.”

The Swiss Infantino did not comment on Trump’s intentions, with whom he maintains very close relations. The speaker was Victor Montagliani, deputy of FIFA and president of Concacaf, the entity that controls football in North and Central America and the Caribbean.

The World Cup, said the Canadian, “is a FIFA tournament, it is under FIFA’s jurisdiction, it is FIFA that makes these decisions.”

This is known. But when it comes to the current president of the United States, one’s jurisdiction has no validity. Its will is imposed by political and economic force, by absolutist rhetoric, by veiled or unveiled threats.

Trump intends to trump the World Cup. Will FIFA be condescending?
