Bus accident leaves dead and injured in rural PE

A car accident killed 15 people, with 11 women and 4 menon Friday night (17) after a bus loses control and overturns in the municipality of Saloá, Agreste de Pernambuco.

According to preliminary information, the bus driver lost control of the steering, which caused the vehicle to go into the wrong lane and hit rocks on the side of the highway. The bus then returned to the road, collided with a sand bank and overturned.

The accident, recorded around 19h45no km 126,9 da BR-423and left an as yet unconfirmed number of injured people, who were taken to various health units in the region.

The driver of the vehicle, who had minor injuries and underwent a breathalyzer test with a normal result, was taken for treatment and later to the Garanhuns Civil Police Station (PE).

The bus passenger list had 30 people. The intensity of the impact caused some passengers to be thrown from the vehicleraising the hypothesis that they could be without a seat belt, according to the PRF-PE.

A BR-423 remained completely closed since the time of the accident, at 7:45 pm on Friday, being released for traffic only at 4:00 a.m this Saturday (18). Teams from SAMU, Fire Department, Military Police (PM), Criminalistics Institute (IC) and Legal Medical Institute (IML) worked at the scene to rescue.

A Civil Police will take over the investigation to determine the circumstances and responsibility for the accident.
